Remarks:
Strictly speaking, this song is in the key of D major, but the band gives
the song its heavily minor-key feel by de-emphasizing major chord voicings.
Geddy's keyboard leads are in the relative minor. Those leads are
presented here for guitar (thanks to Jimmy Pena) and only roughly sync up
with the guitar backing; the measures of tablature begin and end in the
right place, but don't expect the middle to be spot-on rhythmically.
I've seen the solo transcribed many different ways. A lot of it is
just enharmonic with what I have here, played in different positions.
The very last part of the solo, after the natural harmonics, is where
people really diverge. I've seen lots of people do open-position D and
Dsus4-type stuff in the seventh and ninth positions, but that really
sounds bogus to me. As if this brooding song suddenly took a wrong turn
and became "Here Comes the Sun". What I have here sounds closer to the
studio version (to my ears, anyway).
Alex plays some of these chords differently live. On the studio version,
the guitar is deeply buried in the mix in some places. The transcription
I have here is very functional in actual performance and may actually be
almost correct.
I've been wanting to see this song tabbed out in full for years, but no one
ever did it.
